Trademark registration procedure
Registration of rights begins with the filing of an application with the authorized federal executive body.
When preparing an application, it is necessary to determine the list of goods or services in accordance with the classes of the International Classification of Goods and Services (ICGS), for which the trademark is requested.
It is also important to check in advance whether the designation is registered as a trademark with another right holder, since such a check can save you time and money in case of further refusal by the patent office.
The examination of an application includes a formal examination and an examination of the claimed designation.
The law establishes the designation for registered trademarks – “(R)”. This sign is placed next to the name of the designation or the Latin letter “R” in a circle or the verbal designation “trademark” or “registered trademark” and indicates that the designation used is protected on the territory of the Russian Federation.
The registration period is 18 months and two weeks, but it can be accelerated.

Preparing and submitting an application
To submit an application, it is necessary to prepare a file containing an image of the applied designation, which must meet the requirements that allow it to be printed in compliance with the format 8 x 8 cm, 8 x 10 cm. The file type must be one of the following: TIF, TIFF (should not be used for images some type of compression) or DOC. File size – no more than 5 MB, resolution – at least 300 dpi.
In addition, it will be necessary to pay two fees: for filing an application and conducting a formal examination and for conducting an examination of a designation applied for registration.
